Cardinal Bismarck State College computer science students unreal stunning concerned about the Midwest Instruction and Computing Symposium (MICS). The students broke up first place wins in robotics and programming contests, beating dozens of teams of juniors, seniors and students from four-year colleges in the region.
hero element of the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar waterfall, Iowa, April 13 to 14, brings the symposium some 250 of the “best and brightest” students from five U.S. states against each other to learn about their professional and compete in three competitions – robotics, programming and research paper / presentation.
Led by Karen Arlien, partners, professor of computer science, were the BSC students attending the symposium and Alex Austin Nodland Wollan of Bismarck, Ryan Holte, Washburn, Michael Rameden, Ray, Ben Thorson, Newcastle, Wyoming; Darren and Eck, Stockton, California
In the programming competition two teams competed against BSC 55 other teams, a number of problems in mathematics and machine programming languages use within a three-hour clip boundary to solve.Named for computer science concepts, team “Ceramic class Throwable implements {}” (Thorson, Wollan and corner), the first in the shootout programming, final five of the seven problems in the least accessible example.
The BSC other programmers team, “the dangling pointer” (Holte, Rameden and Nodland), 35 aft end down three of the problems vii.
“We were all very exciting. We, as an outsider in every year, and really true that,” said Arlien. “Our goal is always to lick a problem -. Many teams we compete against do not work.”

After Arlien was instrumental in the founding Pippenger BSC’s commitment within the Robotik.Er served as captain of the first BSC robotics team last reporting period, and created and mandated a two-week section next to the field of robotics for computer science I and II students each session.
“There were 20 teams in the competition and ours was the fastest of the two who completed the course. It is so challenging,” says Arlien.
The winning teams received $ 500.
